Volunteer Applications for GRCS 2025 open April 27th!

Our volunteers make it possible to do what we do - without them, we wouldn’t exist! We would be thrilled for you to join the Girls Rock Saskatoon Family and have some fun volunteering with us this summer. Summaries of our volunteer roles are listed below, and are grouped into Mentor Roles and Support Roles. Get in touch with us if you have any questions!






WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
PREFERRED APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, May 25th, 2025*
* Note that you can absolutely still apply after this date, this deadline just helps us start assigning roles and draft weekly schedules so we can provide details to you as soon as possible!
ADULT VOLUNTEERS (AGE 18+): Please be advised that a valid vulnerable sector criminal record check is required; if you go to the Saskatoon Police Station in person to get your check, there is no fee; please note that there is a $10 fee (not covered by us) if you opt to apply for your criminal record check online.
YOUTH VOLUNTEERS (AGES 15 - 17): Support Roles with “*” denote positions open to youth! Great opportunity for GRS alumni!

camp set-up/CLEAN UP (at Mayfair United Church):
If you are able to attend and help out, it’s greatly appreciated! Set up also provides a great opportunity to get to know your fellow volunteers and become familiar with the space before camp.
Sunday, August 10th: Set-up 12:00 - 4:00 PM (approx.)

-Volunteers will be provided daily lunch and snacks at camp, and are entitled to breaks throughout the day!
showcase performance (AT THE BROADWAY THEATRE):
Saturday, August 16th: Volunteer hours between 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM (approx.). Our volunteer wind-up celebration is usually after the showcase - details to come!
Please note: If financial constraints are a barrier to taking part in volunteering at Girls Rock Camp, compensation is available for your time spent with us (for both adult and youth volunteers).
Mentor Roles
These roles are reserved for individuals who identify as female, two-spirit or gender expansive. Individuals in mentor roles work directly with campers to help support and teach them throughout the week. Please note that certain roles require musical experience, while others do not.
Volunteer Orientation for mentor roles is mandatory.

Instrument Instructor
Time Commitment:
- Volunteer Orientation
- Monday - Thursday: 9 AM - 12 PM

Teach campers how to play an instrument
Moderate musical experience required
You may combine this role with Band Manager or Coach for a full day of volunteering!
Musical Experience: REQUIRED
ROLE SUMMARY:
You will be paired with another instructor to create a supportive space for learning guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, or vocals with a small group of campers. Moderate experience on your instrument of choice is needed - no need to be a pro! Lesson outlines will be provided.
Band Coach
Time Commitment:

- Monday and Friday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
-Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 1 - 5 PM
-Saturday Showcase: 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM

You may combine this role with instrument instructor if you want a full day!
Musical Experience: ENCOURAGED but not required
ROLE SUMMARY:
You will be assigned to one awesome band of campers! You’ll work closely with the Band Manager to help your band play their instruments, write their song, and provide general tech support and group facilitation. Some experience writing songs and playing instruments would be helpful.
Band Manager

Musical Experience: not required
ROLE SUMMARY:
Band Managers make sure their band is where they need to be on a daily basis, and oversees band practices. You will support and encourage campers, handling group dynamics, conflict, and decision-making. You’ll work closely with the Band Coach: they focus on the music, and you focus on teamwork and collaboration.

Time Commitment:

Shifts can be flexible for folks unable to commit to full day!

ROLE SUMMARY:
Be present and available at camp to support camper’s emotional and behavioural challenges. This may involve problem solving and conflict resolution. Experience working with youth is an asset. Ideally you’ll be available for the duration of camp week to build rapport, however shifts can be flexible if needed!

Support Roles
Support roles are great for those who want to help out “in the wings” at camp! Support roles have varying degrees of responsibility, time commitment, and types of work, and require less camper interaction than a mentor role. Shift-work is involved in most of these roles and many are easy to pair together if you’re looking for a few different tasks to participate in.
Volunteer Orientation July 27th is mandatory for some of the support roles
Volunteers of all genders and abilities (musical or otherwise) are encouraged to apply for support roles! Roles with “ * ” are open to youth ages 15-17!
Front Desk
Time Commitment:

- Monday - Friday: 8-9 AM and 4-5 PM

Musical Experience: NOT REQUIRED
ROLE SUMMARY:
You will be the first smiling face that the campers see in the morning! Help guardians and campers get signed in and out each day, and sell Saturday Showcase tickets during your time behind the desk.
Set Up & Clean Up Crew*

- Friday: 4:45 - 7 PM (Take-down)

ROLE SUMMARY:
Busy during camp week but still want to volunteer? We need your help setting up for camp and taking everything down when it ends! This may include moving around gear, chairs, etc., setting up rooms and stocking supplies, some light cleaning, and if you have a vehicle, transporting gear! The more volunteers we have, the quicker and easier it gets.
Food Coordinator

ROLE SUMMARY:
Oversee all things food! Plan the week’s daily lunches and snacks, make grocery lists, take the lead on food-prep, and oversee the Food Crew to make it all happen. This role is essential in keeping campers and volunteers happy and energized by keeping them well-fed!

If you would like a full day of fun, this could be combined with gear crew or front desk!
Musical Experience: NOT REQUIRED
rOLE SUMMARY:
Help with snack preparation, serving and supervising meals, kitchen clean-up, and assist in keeping everyone happy by keeping them nourished. May involve some errands such as picking up food donations, supply runs, etc. There are three shift options so you can choose what works best with your schedule (or stick around all day, it’s up to you!).
Gear Coordinator

Familiarity with musical equipment (instruments and gear) required

rOLE SUMMARY:
Coordinate all aspects of the musical equipment used at camp and delegate to your Gear Crew. Secure and manage gear rentals and coordinate movement of gear during camp week at the church and at the Saturday Showcase. You should be familiar with musical equipment and should be available for the majority of camp week, but you don’t necessarily need to be on site at all times/there is some flexibility in the schedule.

rOLE SUMMARY:
Help the Gear Coordinator make the music happen! Load and unload gear and move it around the space as need. Requires some moderate to heavy lifting (amps, drums, etc.). Shifts can be flexible - you don’t necessarily need to be at camp all day everyday, but availability to be there periodically throughout the week as required by the Gear Coordinator is essential!
Photographers*
Time Commitment:
-Friday: 10 AM - 4 PM for Band Portraits
-Saturday: 12:30 - 2:30 PM for Camp Showcase
- FLEXIBLE: Monday - Thursday: 9 AM - 4:30PM

rOLE SUMMARY:
Document Girls Rock Camp Saskatoon! We need experienced photographers to capture Band Portraits, the Camp Showcase, and candid shots from camp if possible. Ideally these photos will be passed onto us in a timely manner so that they can be shared with the campers. By taking on this role, you are also giving us permission to use the images on our website, social media, and promotional materials going forward. You will be credited on our website as this year’s camp photographer(s), and we will credit/tag you in our initial social media posts as we reveal the photos. We encourage you to sign up for as many shifts as you like!
Craft Coordinator

Musical Experience: NOT REQUIRED
rOLE SUMMARY:
Work with our programming committee to plan crafts for camp week. This could include making posters, signs, buttons, or limitless other forms of responsible/therapeutic art activities as you see fit. Ideally the crafts will reflect a somewhat eco-friendly attitude by incorporating up-cycling and repurposing materials with minimal waste in mind.
Rock Star Driver
Time Commitment:
- Volunteer Orientation Optional
- Friday: 9 AM - 5 PM
KEY FEATURES:
A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required as well as
a copy of your driver abstract (GRS will reimburse this expense!)
Rental van provided for your use
Musical Experience: NOT REQUIRED
rOLE SUMMARY:
Help transport campers and their gear safely to and from the Recording Arts Institute of Saskatoon on Friday! A van will be provided for your use and you’ll be accompanied by the Band Manager and Coach of each band throughout your travels. A detailed schedule will be provided to ensure smooth and efficient trip coordination throughout the day.
