GIRLS ROCK CAMP

Applications are now closed for our 2024 Summer Youth Camp

CAMP BASICS

Girls Rock Camp Saskatoon (GRCS) is a week-long summer program for youth ages 8-14, where campers learn an instrument, form a band, and write a song to be performed at a showcase at the end of the week. In addition to technical training, campers take part in a number of music and non-music workshops centred on creativity and confidence-building, such as songwriting, image & identity, zine-making, screenprinting, and more. To stay informed on when camp applications open (and other GRS events & updates), consider subscribing to our e-newsletter! Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for camp?

GRCS encourages girls and under-represented youth from all backgrounds to apply for camp. In addition to cisgender girls, GRCS welcomes applications from self-identified female, trans, two-spirit, and gender expansive youth.

Youth need to be the appropriate age for the camp week that they select (aged 8 – 14) as of the first day of the camp they are registered in.

Campers that have attended 2 years in a row or more will receive lower priority during the selection process.

How much does it cost to register?

Registration fees are $400 and payment is due from successful applicants by April 18th.  Financial assistance is available to families who require it. Please contact us to learn more.

How are youth selected for camp?

GRCS values diversity, and selects campers with this in mind. We perform a delicate balancing act of creating a demographic of campers that represent a broad array of ages, instrument selections, ethnic and gender identities, and home addresses.

Do campers need to be present for the whole camp?

Yes. Because the week of camp is so short and there is so much to learn and so much fun to be had, we ask that each camper be able to fully attend each day of camp. This includes the Saturday matinee showcase concert. Camp usually takes place in August.

Do campers need to have any previous musical experience?

No previous musical experience is required to take part in Girls Rock Camp Saskatoon, though youth with musical experience are also encouraged to attend. All skill levels are welcome!

Do campers need to provide their own musical instrument?

No. Instruments will be provided for all campers for the week of camp. Campers should indicate their instrument preference during registration, and every effort will be made to accommodate their first choice. Instruments loaned by GRCS cannot be taken home during the week of camp.

Will lunch be provided?

GRCS will provide healthy lunch and snacks to all participants, and will work with youth who have dietary restrictions when possible.

My child was in Girls Rock Camp in previous years, can we apply for GRCS?

Sure! We try to strike a balance of new and returning campers. Campers that have attended 2 years in a row or more will receive lower priority during the selection process. Please note that we can’t guarantee spots for returning campers.
