About Girls Rock Camp All Grown Up 2019
PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION BEFORE APPLYING!
Girls Rock Saskatoon is pleased to announce our fourth-ever Girls Rock Camp: All Grown Up! If you’re a grown-up who’s always wanted to learn an instrument and be in a band, this is the weekend for you. Girls Rock Camp: All Grown Up is a fundraiser in support of our youth camps.
Who: any woman, trans, two-spirit, or gender-non-conforming adult aged 19 and up who wants to learn an instrument and collaborate with a band.
What: a weekend-long mini-camp where participants will receive lessons in drums, guitar, bass, or keys, form a band, write a song, and perform for their fans! We strive to create a safe and comfortable environment for campers to be able to try something new. Past campers have said that camp was a non-judgemental environment that made them feel confident, empowered, supported and inspired.
No previous musical experience is required to participate. In fact, this camp is for beginners – all campers will be a beginner on the instrument they learn to play that weekend. One goal of camp is to give access to learning an instrument and forming a band to those who haven’t had that chance before.
“To be able to get out in front of people and perform an instrument I just picked up is such a confidence boost”
Camp also includes: workshops designed to get you thinking about women and feminism in music, songwriting, performing, and mealtime performances by rad folks in Saskatoon’s music scene to entertain and inspire you!
All instruments and supplies will be provided.
Where: Queen’s House of Retreats, 601 Taylor St W, Saskatoon, SK. This is an accessible facility. The Showcase Concert will take place at Amigos Cantina.
When: September 4th – 6th, 2020
Friday September 4th: 4pm – 10pm
Saturday September 5th: 10am – 10pm
Sunday September 6th: 10am – 3pm & showcase in the evening (8pm – late)
Price of participation: AGU was created for two reasons: as a fundraiser for GRC, and to provide a camp with the same mission for grownups. Don’t you wish you could have gone to GRC when you were a kid, we sure do! We’d love for you to contribute to our fundraising goal, but if finances are a barrier to participate, we still want you to apply and we’ll work with you to reduce the barriers to your participation. This could include payment options (eg. paying in multiple instalments), a sliding scale price, and sponsorship).
If you’d like to participate but the registration fees will present a barrier for you, please let us know when you register.
Sliding Scale: We try to keep camp costs as low as possible. For example, everyone volunteers their time! The cost of putting on camp is $275/participant. If you can afford this, great! If you can afford to pay more than this to help create opportunities for others to participate, great! If you cannot afford $275, that’s cool too. You’ll be able to let us know that in the application form, and we will help eliminate the cost barrier for you.
Meals will be provided during the weekend. Participation in the full weekend is essential, so please keep your schedule clear!
