Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is GRCS 2019?

Girls Rock Saskatoon is happy to offer two separate camps! Camp weeks take place at Mayfair United Church in Saskatoon from 9:00-4:30 Monday-Friday, and the Saturday matinee showcase concerts take place at the Broadway Theatre.

Week 1 (July 15 – 20)  Ages 8 – 14
Week 2 (July 22 – 27)  Ages 8 – 14

Campers are expected to attend all five days of camp, as well as the Saturday matinee showcase concert (campers should be available 12:00-4:00 that day).

Who is eligible for camp?
GRCS encourages girls and under-represented youth from all backgrounds to apply for camp. In addition to cisgender girls, GRCS welcomes applications from self-identified female, trans, two-spirit, and gender non-conforming youth.

Youth need to be the appropriate age for the camp week that they select (aged 8 – 14 for both weeks of camp) as of the first day of the camp they are registered in.

Campers that have attended 2 years in a row or more will receive lower priority during the selection process.

How much does it cost to register?
Registration fees are $300 and payment is due from successful applicants by April 1. Financial assistance is available to families who require it. Please contact us at to learn more.

Do campers need to have any previous musical experience?
No previous musical experience is required to take part in Girls Rock Camp Saskatoon, though youth with musical experience are also encouraged to attend. All skill levels are welcome!

Do campers need to provide their own musical instrument?
No. Instruments will be provided for all campers for the week of camp. Campers should indicate their instrument preference during registration, and every effort will be made to accommodate their first choice. Instruments loaned by GRCS cannot be taken home during the week of camp.

Do campers need to be present for the whole camp?
Yes. Because the week of camp is so short and there is so much to learn and so much fun to be had, we ask that each camper be able to fully attend each day of camp. This includes the Saturday matinee showcase concert.

Will lunch be provided?
GRCS will provide healthy lunch and snacks to all participants, and will work with youth who have dietary restrictions when possible.

How are youth selected for camp?
GRCS values diversity, and selects campers with this in mind. We perform a delicate balancing act of creating a demographic of campers that represent a broad array of ages, instrument selections, ethnic and gender identities, and home addresses.

My child was in Girls Rock Camp in previous years, can we apply for GRCS 2018?
Sure! We try to strike a balance of new and returning campers. Campers that have attended 2 years in a row or more will receive lower priority during the selection process. Please note that we can’t guarantee spots for returning campers.

How do I apply for GRCS?

Applications will be open from March 4 – 11, 2019.
